College street gallery Swansea, Uk Exhibition
My first ever exhibition that I hosted along side my mother in July till August 2023.
Hi my names Nik, im a 17 year old artist from Krakow, Poland. currently studying and living in Wales Uk.
In March 2023 I went to Peter Finnemore' exhibition in Elysium Gallery Swansea on a college trip that I personally thought was very boring since it was about 60 people walking around galleries in Swansea (my local city). About 2 days prior I got fired from my job that I had for over a year. Seeing Finnemore talk so passionately about art made something in me click. He was making a living off his hobby. I wanted that to be my life, My future, My now really.
About 2 hours later after I had gone back to Elysium after my college trip had finished, I put down a deposit to book the college street gallery venue. Got my parents together and told them that the payment for the venue is what I wanted as my 17th birthday present. They agreed.
A week or so later me and my mum were talking, we both decided due to me still being in college me and her would do it together. So we did.
28th of July till the 11th of August 2023 we were open. I had so many doubts about hosting an exhibition. I shouldn't have. It was the best thing that ever happened in my life. It kick stared everything. It's getting me where I wanted to be in 3-4 years time. But it got me there sooner, a lot to sooner. The main thing I realised was that opertunities don't get given to everyone. You can't sit there and wait for them to arise. You make things happen for yourself. Art has been my living and breathing passion for the past 4 years straight. Happy I finally made it my job now. Could not be more thankful to everyone that helped with setup and preparation. My girls who helped hand out posters to shops to my best friend who helped clean the gallery with me the days prior to opening night.
Thank you to everyone who attended. I could not be more grateful to all of you. You all helped to get me one step closer to my dream that doesn't look like a dream anymore but an actual reality.
